The Indian Army successfully prevented an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by officials on Tuesday. Soldiers observed suspicious activities late Monday night and challenged the infiltrators, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire from both sides. A search operation is currently underway in the area.
Heightened Vigilance Along India-Pakistan Border
Amid rising concerns over potential infiltration attempts, the Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its vigilance along the LOC in Kashmir ahead of winter. Officials indicated that intelligence reports suggest terrorists are poised to infiltrate the valley from various launch pads across the border.
During a conversation with reporters at the Wular 2.0 Marathon in Bandipora district, BSF Additional Director General Satish S. Khandare stated, "Historically, infiltration attempts increase before winter. Keeping this in mind, we have placed our personnel on high alert and enhanced monitoring along the border."
He added that while providing exact figures is challenging, reports indicate that the neighboring country is establishing multiple launch pads along the border. "The threat of terrorist infiltration from across the border remains constant, but the BSF and Army are vigilant and prepared to thwart such attempts. We are diligently fulfilling our responsibilities."
Community Engagement Through Marathon
The marathon saw significant participation from the community, including youth and women, across three categories: 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km. The ADG noted, "This is the second edition of the marathon; the BSF organized it last year as well. It is part of our efforts to strengthen ties with communities living near the LOC and border."
